Finish Carpentry

The details you notice every time you walk in.

Finish carpentry is where a job either looks right or it doesn't. A gap at a miter, a floorboard that rocks, a post cap that's a little off level. I take my time on this part, because it's the part you look at for years.

In one attic, after the drywall went in around the old beams and the brick chimney, I laid a wide pine floor one board at a time. On a cedar deck I built benches into the edge and stepped the post caps. I've stripped and refinished an old secretary desk, and on boats I've glued up curved teak grates and fitted varnished mahogany doors.

Whatever the piece, it gets measured on site and fit to the house it's going into.

In their words.

Both of my reviews so far are from fence jobs. They still say a lot about how I work on every job.

Questions

Good to know.

Gudgel General Contracting LLC is a one-person business in Belfast, Maine. Estimates are free.

Do you do small trim jobs?

Yes. A single door casing or a stretch of baseboard is worth a call, and small finish work often rides along with other repairs on the same visit.

Can you match old trim in an older house?

I look at what's there and match it as closely as I can so the new piece doesn't stand out. If it can't be matched exactly, I'll tell you before I start.

How do I get an estimate?
